International Wine Report: 2015 Reviews

2015 Annia: 93 points. The Massican Annia in 2015 is a blend of 45% Tocai Friulano, 41% Ribolla Gialla, 14% Chardonnay. In the style of a Friulian white, this Napa Valley Gem from Dan Petroski is a perennial hit. It has lovely aromas of fresh orange, fennel seed, and white flowers, followed by secondary aromas of quince and honey. I love the texture and balance of this wine on the palate and through to the crisp and very clean finish. Overall an elegant white that will gain complexity over the next few years. (Best 2016-2021)

2015 Gemina: 91 points. The 2015 Gemina from Massican is a blend of 69% Pinot Grigio and 31% Greco. In past vintages, Gemina was primarily Greco. However, winemaker Dan Petroski had about 50% less Greco in 2015, so decided to use primarily Pinot Grigio in the blend. The result is a very accessible and fresh white. It has a light golden color with delicate aromas of fresh white peach, tangerine, fresh fennel, and spring flowers, which all come together beautifully. It has a gorgeous texture with flavors of fresh citrus fruit, hints of dried herb and a touch of honey. It remains extremely well balanced through the crisp, vibrant finish. (Best 2016-2019)

2015 Hyde: 95 points. The 2015 Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay from Massican is an incredible showing. It instantly opens with beautiful and extremely complex aromas of lime zest, orchard fruit, fresh minerals, and buttered almonds followed by hints of sliced pear, honey and tropical fruits that resonate through the wine. This displays a lovely elegant character with striking purity and a wonderful rich texture that is beautifully balanced. It continues to impress until the very end, where it delivers a range of delicious ripe flavors which linger on. Very approachable now and it will be a pleasure to watch this outstanding Chardonnay evolve for years to come. (Best 2016-2026)

2015 Sauvignon: 93 points. This is an absolutely sensational 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Dan Petroski which delivers expressive aromas of fresh citrus fruits, spring flowers, tangerine peel, fresh herbs and crushed stones which burst from the glass. It has great depth of flavor coupled with great texture and balance, all of this is underlined by bright acidity. This is a brilliant Sauvignon that is drinking exceptionally well right now. (Best 2016-2020)
